BIOLINES
June 2010
A Word from Debbie Hart, President
of BioNJ
The upcoming July 4 Holiday is a perfect time to look
back at the activities and events that have made the first six months of
2010 a period of great progress for the New Jersey biotechnology industry
despite some notable challenges – and to look to the promise of the
second half of the year.
In
this column I would like to discuss:
*
We have launched an exciting new version of our Web site to better serve
our members and attract new companies to New Jersey.
*
The outstanding success of the June 14-15 BioNJ 2010 BioNJ BioPartnering 2010 Conference, a fitting follow-on to
our 2010 Annual Dinner Meeting, Awards Program and Networking Event.
* Reductions in the New Jersey State Budget affecting
programs that have been supportive of the industry and which we hope can
be countered at least in part by the opportunities created by the federal
Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery
Project Tax Credit.
* Initial results from our Industry Survey with Ernst and
Young that report a significant increase in the number of biotech
companies operating in New Jersey in the two-year period from 2008 to
2010.
* The energy and enthusiasm already building for Biotech 2010.
* G. Steven Burrill joins us
for a free webinar on Diagnostics on July 21.
* New Jersey Recognizes Amicus Therapeutics CEO and
Chairman John Crowley and Family.
